Subject: Urgent Safety Hazard – Dropped Drainage Cover Damaging Tyres
Dear Brent Council Highways Team,
I am writing to formally report a serious safety hazard involving a roadside drainage cover located on the curb side of 31 EVELYN AVENUE NW9 0JF. The gully cover has dropped significantly below pavement level and is causing damage to vehicle tyres. It poses a clear risk to motorists and pedestrians alike. It's been there for a long while.
Despite the obvious danger, no remedial action appears to have been taken. I request that this issue be treated as urgent and that the cover be lifted and levelled with the surrounding pavement without delay.

This problem has now been inspected. Limited Council resources mean that it is not possible to repair each and every defect, and we have to prioritise cases that pose the most risk to the public so a further assessment by officers is required. We hope to make a decision on this repair within the next 14 days and provide a further update. If this defect is selected for repair, our contractor will have a further 28 days to carry out the work
Thank you for taking the time to report this defect and helping keep Brent a safer, more accessible place to live.

This defect was categorised as medium priority defect. To maximise the benefit to be achieved from available funding for medium priority defects we must prioritise locations of greater risk over others. Unfortunately on this occasion this defect was not prioritised for repair. However, we will continue to monitor this on our scheduled cyclic inspections and should it deteriorate further will be reassessed for possible selection for repair.
