I am writing to formally seek compensation for damages incurred to my vehicle as a result of hitting a pothole on Bridgewater Road, Wembley. On 27 October 2024, at approximately 18:20, I was travelling between 16 and 2 Bridgewater Road, before the intersection with Bridgehill Close, when I had to swerve to avoid a motorbike and bicycle obstructing my lane. This manoeuvre forced my vehicle over a large pothole, which caused my front tyre to burst. As my vehicle does not come equipped with a spare tyre, I was left with two options: to recover the vehicle to my destination at an estimated cost of £150 to £200, or to arrange an emergency tyre replacement on-site. After an extensive search, I found a 24-hour tyre service provider, who initially quoted me £300 but agreed to reduce this to £210. Given the situation, I opted for the emergency tyre repair to ensure the safety and comfort of my passengers, which included two children under the age of ten and two additional adults. Had I chosen to have the vehicle recovered, there would have been an additional tyre replacement cost of £135 on top of the recovery cost. The pothole in question is larger than one inch in depth and therefore, based on standard safety regulations, should have been repaired urgently to prevent such incidents. Additionally, I observed that this stretch of Bridgewater Road has multiple potholes and is visibly in disrepair. This is further corroborated by Google Maps imagery, which also reflects the poor condition of the road. In support of my claim, I am attaching the following documents: • Photographs taken at the scene, showing both the pothole and the damage sustained by the tyre • A copy of the payment receipt for the emergency tyre repair • A photo of the tyre recovery service vehicle as additional verification. Considering the circumstances and the distress caused, I kindly request that Brent Council compensates me for the expenses incurred as a direct result of the road’s poor condition. My claim comprises the emergency repair cost of £210, and I seek reimbursement of this amount as a reasonable settlement given the inadequate maintenance of the road. I trust that Brent Council will give this matter serious consideration, recognising the council's duty to maintain the safety and integrity of public roads. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to this claim. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
